8 Days On / 6 Days Off | Norseman WA | Site‑Based Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Safety & Training Coordinator to join our team at the Scotia Underground Project near Norseman. This is a key site‑based role supporting an underground operation, responsible for maintaining high safety standards, training compliance and emergency preparedness.
This position suits a confident safety professional who is hands‑on, highly organised and comfortable working closely with site leadership, supervisors and workforce personnel in a remote mining environment.
The Role
Reporting to site management and working closely with the Corporate Safety Manager, you will coordinate site safety systems, training programs and emergency preparedness. You will play a highly visible role in promoting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with company, client and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Report accidents, incidents, hazards and near misses in accordance with site procedures
- Inspect work areas and equipment for hazards, damage or defects prior to work commencing
- Ensure work areas are maintained to the required housekeeping and safety standards
- Attend and actively contribute to safety meetings, pre‑starts and toolbox talks
- Take appropriate action during emergencies and assist with incident response
- Identify and promote the safest, most efficient and effective methods of work
- Report environmental incidents promptly and assist with clean‑up and containment activities
- Ensure materials are used correctly and waste is disposed of in an environmentally approved manner
- Maintain mine rescue training records, callout lists and emergency plans
- Coordinate and assist in emergency drills and scenario testing
- Ensure all safety documentation, training records and competency matrices are current
- Maintain and manage a Corrective Actions Register from audits, inspections, incident reports and meetings, ensuring actions are closed out and documented
- Liaise with the Corporate Safety Manager regarding new or revised procedures and training materials
- Establish weekly training requirements in consultation with supervisors and obtain approval from the Mine Manager/Foreman
- Accompany injured workers to medical facilities and assist with injury management and documentation
- Maintain first aid rooms and kits and provide initial treatment to injured personnel
- Ensure supervisors are conducting task observations in line with site safety plans
- Liaise with neighbouring mine sites to share safety initiatives, learnings and best practices
What We’re Looking For
You will be an experienced Safety & Training professional with a strong understanding of mining operations and site‑based safety systems.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Previous experience in a Safety & Training Coordinator or similar role within mining
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and mining safety standards
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (or equivalent)
- Relevant safety qualifications (e.g. Cert IV WHS or higher)
- First Aid & CPR certification
- Strong reporting, documentation and record‑keeping skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to communicate confidently with personnel at all levels
- National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain)
